One of the most trending apps in the world is “INSTAGRAM” created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. Instagram is a visual platform where people can upload and share their photo and video available on android, apple iOS and windows phone. They can also share their photos to their selected friend and group of friends.



WHY IS INSTAGRAM SO POPULAR?

​ Instagram is the only app which makes the users to be popular in useful manner. It is the most important platform for photographers. Users also use different hashtags to showcase their photography talent to be unique. It is a platform not only for photographers but also bloggers, writers, stylist, designers, artists, etc. Instagram is the new gen marketplace. It is the bridge for buyers and sellers.

FEATURES OF INSTAGRAM:

​ There are several stickers like polls, countdown which becoming more popular and quiz sticker can be grateful for interactive stories. Shopping feature increases the costumers via posts and stories. There is a new feature called ‘Close friends’ where people can showcase their stories only to your close circle friends. There is a video feature that allows only 60 seconds long. Instagram live video where one can get comment like the video stream in real time. IG Tv is an app within Instagram which useful for business people for video marketing. Other feature is that turning existing posts into ads.

TIMELINE OF INSTAGRAM:

​ From 2010 to 2012 Instagram launches on iPhone and there were 30 million users. From 2013 to 2016 Instagram introduces various features as videos, direct messaging, and advertising and grows to 400 million users. Later there were live instastories in 2016. In 2017 it launches TikTok a short video. Launches “mute” feature allows users to hide posts from certain users in 2018. In 2019, Instagram removes “Following” activity tab. In 2020 introduces reels to compete against TikTOk.


ADVANTAGE OF INSTAGRAM:

​ More than 25 million businesses using Instagram to market. Instagram helps brands and other leverages to describe and detail their products. The most important use of Instagram for brands and retailers is customer experience. It is so easy to find your friends and share their profile to others and to communicate with them. Instagram is a medium of social media. The best feature is the high visibility of post. It also provides effects which makes a frame to the pictures and upload on your account.

DISADVANTAGE OF INSTAGRAM:

​ There are lots of advantages but also has some disadvantages too. Instagram design is more comfortable for mobile phones and tablets than laptop as it has limited features. It is also addictive and also consume your valuable time. If your image is so attractive, you will receive more likes, comments. The copyright of the post are easily lost because other parties repost your photo without asking permission. There is always fear of someone stealing your images. Major disadvantage is advertising issue.


INSTAGRAM DEMOGRAPHICS:

​ When Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 there were 30 million users and in 2018 there were 1 billion users. Daily active users were about 500 million users. Nearly 90% of users on Instagram follows business account. More than 500 million accounts use Instagram stories. Instagram is most popular among youngsters. Top 10 most followed Instagram accounts are- Cristiano Ronaldo, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Lionel Messi, Beyonce, Neymar, Kylie Jenner, Dwayne Johnson, Kim Kardashian and Instagram.
