Jain was then working as a marketing manager at infrastructure and land firm Jai Crop. It was promoted by his father Anand Jain. As Jain and Sheth were big fans of English football fantasy leagues It started as a private project. They wanted to undertake something similar for IPL, which had just started and thought there will be others like them. At the same time the duo dabbled in other ventures, including a digital and social media agency called Red Digital in 2010. In 2013 They sold to Gozoop for about Rs 7 crore. Meanwhile, Jain and Sheth also got their MBAs from the US.

Initially dream11 ran as an ad-based model with a season-long format. It didn't find many takers. By 2012 the corporate decided to prevent this model and instead consider daily matches. They allow users to place money on the teams.

From just 10,00,000 users in January 2014, the corporate reached 1.3 million by absolutely the (upper) of the year, This number jumped to 1.5 Crore by absolutely the (upper) of 2017. It was 4 Crore+ in 2018 and now reached to over 8 Crore +.

BRAND AMBASSADOR

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, cricketer and Ex-Indian Captain is the brand ambassador of the company. He has been seen appearing in the ad campaigns with “Khelo Dimaag Se” as their media campaign. Commentator Harsha Bhogle was their brand ambassador in 2017. For their market campaigning Dream 11 has associated with various IPL franchises.

In fact, the company itself drove the point by branding the game with a tagline “Khelo dimag se”. So, as it stands, fantasy gaming apps are a game of skill and unless somebody can prove otherwise, they will continue to remain legal.

IS DREAM 11 PROMOTING GAMBLING OR IS IT NOT?

To completely understand the nuance here, it's important to understand the difference between a game of chance and a game of skill. Now a game of chance involves a private depending on an uncertain outcome. Say, a roll of dice or a lottery. In both cases, the result has no pertaining to the skill of the player. It’s as uncertain because it gets.

A game of skill, on the opposite hand, depends on the player’s training, experience, conditioning and adroitness.

However, even an outdoor observer will tell you most games involve a mixture of skill and chance. Even a real-life game of cricket features a specific amount of chance involved. an easy coin toss can have a huge pertaining to the result.

ARE THEY LEGAL ? HOW ?

Well for starters, gambling laws at the central level are a touch vague. In fact, most states have their own combat gambling. as an example , lotteries are legal in 13 states. Casinos are legal in Goa and Sikkim. and therefore the country’s primary gambling law the general public Gambling Act, 1867, may be a byproduct of the colonial enterprise. So these laws weren’t exactly designed to handle activities on the web . when gaming apps like Dream11 started in India, people were obviously confused about the legal aspect surrounding the business.

WHAT WAS DREAM 11 LOOKING FOR?

IPL being one among the most important sports leagues in India, they were looking to form the foremost out of their partnership with the league by achieving below objectives:

  • Optimizing user acquisition cost by 50%.

  • Increasing Fantasy click share by 20%

  • Increasing click share for IPL terms by 10 times.

HOW DO YOU WIN A GAME ?

Well, if your players leave there and score tons of runs, take wickets and claim a couple of spectacular catches, you’ll be in line to gather tons of points. And if you score points above a particular threshold, you'll be one among the winners. Potentially, you'll win lakhs of rupees overnight a minimum of that’s what these apps claim. But then, this format of creating easy money does look tons like gambling. Its got all the features small entry fee, big payouts, a back real-life players playing in competitive games.
